Abstract The Oriole Club (later the Oriole Chorus) was founded in 1915 by eighteen women students at Augustana College and Theological Seminary. The group stated its object as the "development and continuance of a ladies' chorus to promote instruction, sociability and entertainment of the members." The Palmquist family papers, 1907-1983 and undated, includes postcards, class notebooks, correspondence and reproductions of photographs.The bulk of the materials in the collection focuses on Wilbur Palmquist, a minister and Augustana College alumnus. The Palmquist family owned a farm in Lawton, Iowa, and this is where Wilbur spent his time when he was not at Augustana College.

The Phrateres was an all female organization for college students centered around socialization, leadership, networking and service. By 1944, there were 13 official chapters, including one at the University of British Columbia, making it an international organization. Augustana College's chapter, Omicron, was founded in 1941. Abstract Lenora Purdy was born 16 July 1912, to Edward Purdy, an employee of the Iowa Telephone Company, and his wife, Antoinette Blaser-Purdy.
