Abstract

Allen H. Johnson graduated from Augustana College in 1929. While at Augustana, Johnson worked part time at the Augustana Book Concern and upon graduation, he became a full time cashier and payroll manager. Abstract

Arthur “Brownie” Larson was born in Rockford, Illinois. He enrolled in the Augustana Academy in 1914 and took a brief break to serve in the Navy during World War I. He returned to Rock Island and attended Augustana College from 1918 to 1922. The Augustana College Office of Development collection on Arthur Larson contains papers about Larson's life collected by the Development Office, including photographs, programs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and a plaque.

The materials from the Moretz and Stahl family collection of Augustana College materials include the personal possessions of Ethel Paulson Moretz, Helen Moretz Stahl, Richard "Dick" Stahl, and John Moretz (son of Ethel Paulson Moretz and brother of Helen Moretz Stahl). Covering a 67 year span, the materials in the Moretz and Stahl family collection are date from 1924 to 2013 and include documents, photographs, postcards, and memorabilia from family members' time at Augustana College.

Abstract Carol Noren was the first woman graduate of Augustana Theological Seminary to enter the ministry. She served as pastor and hospital chaplain in Manchester, England (1975-1976) and associate pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Barrington, Ill., from 1977 to 1981. Between 1986 and 1993, she served on faculty at Duke Divinity School and currently is the Wesley W. Nelson Professor of Homiletics at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago. Abstract Charlotte J. Odman attended Augustana College from 1934 to 1938. The Palmquist family papers, 1907-1983 and undated, includes postcards, class notebooks, correspondence and reproductions of photographs.The bulk of the materials in the collection focuses on Wilbur Palmquist, a minister and Augustana College alumnus. The Palmquist family owned a farm in Lawton, Iowa, and this is where Wilbur spent his time when he was not at Augustana College.

Abstract Lenora Purdy was born 16 July 1912, to Edward Purdy, an employee of the Iowa Telephone Company, and his wife, Antoinette Blaser-Purdy. Lenora had one sister, Erma (1913-2002), and they both attended the Davenport public schools. These included Monroe School, West Intermediate School, and Davenport High School.
